Exit World Cup, Enter IPL

Exit World Cup, Enter IPL

Barely a week after we’ve got over the euphoria of the cricket World Cup come, 51 days of the Indian Premier League. Most of us will barely get time to take off our Team India Blues and don the jerseys of the teams we are rooting for. And this year, the IPL promises to be bigger and better.

Twenty overs, 51 days, 10 teams, 139 international players and 74 games. When one adds the aspiration of millions of fans, a 100 cheerleaders and the 100-plus decibel levels in the stadia, the IPL does sound a bit mind-boggling. But who’s complaining? Starting April 8 and going on till May 28, the annual edition of the famous T20 format is in its fourth season. The championship this year has two new teams: Pune Warriors and Kochi Tuskers Kerala. And the addition of these new teams have also led to new venues: Pune and Kochi.

So, if you are trying to get tickets for the games, your other options besides the stadia are television, the Internet, Youtube (youtube. com/ipl) and your mobile (m.iplt20.com) phone.

Here’s what a cross section of our young readers feel about the cricket crazy time ahead of them…

Vaibhav Sinha , Class XI, RLB Memorial School
I love the IPL matches. T20 games are more interesting than the ODIs because there are less overs to play. Otherwise it might not have been possible for everyone to sit through all the matches.

Jyotsna Class VIII, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sadiq Nagar
The IPL is great fun. Though I feel that so many matches could be tiring for the teams and the viewers. With the Kochi and Pune teams joining the fray, the race to the Cup has become tougher.

Viren Gupta , Class X, Little Flower Convent
One cannot ask for more fun what with the T20 starting soon after the World Cup. There will be no tension about studies as exams are over! Now we can enjoy cricket to the fullest!

Ketan Gupta Class IX, MPVM Ganga, Gurukulam
I can’t wait for the IPL to start. This year’s edition will be more exciting with two new teams joining the league. I will cheer my favorite team, the Delhi Daredevils.

Ashwin Nair, Class XII, St. Mary’s School
There may be less interest in the IPL be-cause of the controversies that cropped up. But I believe the games will be interesting. I am looking forward to seeing the Kochi team in action.
